Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare is essential for healing your tattoo and keeping it vibrant. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth healing process:
First 24–48 Hours (Initial Healing Phase)
-
Leave the Bandage On
-
Keep the initial wrap (plastic or bandage) on for 2–4 hours (or as advised by your artist).
-
If using a second-skin adhesive bandage (like Saniderm/Tegaderm), leave it on for 24–48 hours unless instructed otherwise.
-
-
Wash Your Hands First
-
Always wash your hands with antibacterial soap before touching your tattoo.
-
-
Gently Clean the Tattoo
-
Remove the bandage and rinse with lukewarm water (not hot).
-
Use fragrance-free antibacterial soap (like Dial Gold or Cetaphil) to clean the area.
-
Pat dry with a clean paper towel (avoid cloth towels to prevent bacteria).
-
-
Apply a Thin Layer of Moisturizer
-
Use a fragrance-free tattoo aftercare balm (like Aquaphor, Hustle Butter, or plain unscented lotion).
-
Avoid petroleum-based products (Vaseline) as they can suffocate the tattoo.
-
First 2 Weeks (Healing Phase)
-
Wash 2–3 Times Daily
-
Clean your tattoo gently morning, night, and after sweating.
-
-
Moisturize Regularly (But Don’t Overdo It!)
-
Apply a thin layer of moisturizer 2–3 times a day.
-
Too much moisture can cause clogged pores or fading.
-
-
Avoid Picking or Scratching
-
Your tattoo will peel and flake—this is normal. Do not pick or scratch!
-
Let scabs fall off naturally to prevent scarring.
-
-
No Swimming, Soaking, or Sun Exposure
-
Avoid pools, hot tubs, baths, and long showers for at least 2 weeks.
-
No direct sunlight or tanning until fully healed (4–6 weeks).
-
Long-Term Care
-
Use Sunscreen (After Healing)
-
Once healed, apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to prevent fading.
-
-
Stay Hydrated & Keep Skin Healthy
-
Well-moisturized skin keeps tattoos looking fresh.
What to Avoid
❌ Scratching, picking, or peeling the tattoo.

Follow these steps, and your tattoo will heal beautifully! If unsure, always consult your tattoo artist.
